Authentic mountain dinner and heartfelt hospitality
Workday with the Giro d’Italia team and we ended up in this small mountain hotel with an authentic, human, real feel.
Hotel Villa Svizzera isn’t the usual modern, picture-perfect catalog hotel: it’s one of those places you have to experience “with your heart”. Mountain 80s vibe, warm and welcoming rooms, wood, simplicity and above all a wonderful family-run management.
Welcoming us was a very Bolognese lady, super nice, polite, sunny and incredibly sociable. You can feel right away that here hospitality is done with true passion. Her husband is the chef and their daughter the pastry chef: basically a family that lives cooking and welcoming like in the old days.
We were a group of 14 people from the Giro d’Italia staff and as soon as we sat down they welcomed us with spectacular tigelle: one with prosciutto crudo and one with lardo… simply fantastic.
I had truffle gnocchetti, really excellent, while many of my colleagues chose gramigna with sausage ragù, a typical Emilian dish done really well.
For the main: pork shank with potatoes or chicken strips with mushrooms, all generous and cooked with an authentic home-style taste. Lots of vegetables and starters to round out a truly hearty dinner.
But the best thing was the atmosphere: it felt like being at friends’ home more than in a hotel. Laughter, chats, friendliness and that human warmth that today is found more and more rarely.
